BART’S BLOG – JULY 2019

The Auditions Are Coming!

Imagine that you arrive to a job interview only to discover a room full of other applicants just as qualified if not more so for the job as you.  Now imagine that in addition to your talents, a number of things over which you have no control like your height and age are also going to be considered.  That’s what it’s like to audition.  And I know it sounds crazy but I can hardly wait.

This July, the PAC is holding auditions for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and for the next Sherlock Holmes play, THE SIGN OF FOUR.  And even though I am looking forward to directing THE SIGN OF FOUR, I am also eagerly anticipating the chance to audition in front of Aaron Taylor who is directing for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.  This will be the first time I’ve auditioned in over five years.  The audition materials are available at www.ThePAC.net/audition and I have been working on them at home in my spare time in addition to watching clips from the Mel Brooks movie to make sure I’ve got the timing and movements down.  Even so, I’m nervous as hell.  So why do it?

To create a character, to sing a high note, to nail a dance step, to hear the laughter and applause from an audience is for me like scoring a touchdown.  And there’s nothing else in the world that compares to that kind of thrill.

So, if you have a burning desire to perform or heck, if you’re just a huge fan of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN or SHERLOCK HOLMES; go to www.ThePAC.net/audition right now for all your audition materials and start getting ready to join me on stage for auditions on July 15th or 16th at the PAC.

This month the PAC Kid Spotlight shines on Central Hardin High School student Mia Moss.  Mia has been slaving over the set for Youth Theatre’s summer production of Hello, Dolly!  Come see her handiwork but whatever you do, don’t ask her to help you with your lattice!  Learn more about Mia and our other PAC Kids.
