If you don’t know the play, it’s a brilliant, fun, very English 1895 comedy from Oscar Wilde. Though it’s got incredible wit and satire, the characters don’t know that. Well, they know they’re witty (especially Algy), yet, unlike the recent comedies done at The PAC (Clue, The Play That Goes Wrong, The 39 Steps), these characters don’t “wink” at the audience; they are full-fledged people flying through their upper-class lives with utter belief and total commitment to what they’re saying and living—very earnest, if you will.![]()
